What is a Pharmacy Technician

You've heard about people becoming Pharmacy Technicians, but what actually is a Pharmacy Technician? I work for a 24 hour pharmacy that employs a number of pharmacy Technicians (also known as Pharm Techs) and they play a critical role in the day to day pharmacy operations.

A Pharm Tech is responsible for keying in med orders into a medication order database. Pharmacy Technicians are also responsible for loading drug trays, packaging medications and visually checking prescribed orders that are printed on the order's label.

Without Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists would become overwhelmed by the tedious tasks of counting pills, making sure all orders are accounted for and also keeping track of the clock, in cases of immediate (STAT) orders that may come in.
